Smart Balance Peanut Butter

I had seen the commercial for Smart Balance Omega Peanut Butter several times over the past few weeks, and had been wanting to try it, so the other night I picked some up. This stuff is pretty expensive. $3.99 for a small jar. I figured it's not really possible to mess up the taste of peanut butter, so it had to be good.

I was wrong. The Omega-3's come from flaxseed and palm fruit oil added to the peanut butter. This isn't so bad taken in pill form, but in peanut butter? Seriouly, why mix the two? For convenience? I don't know about you, but I can find 4 seconds during my day to swallow a couple pills. The peanut butter tastes OK until you swallow it. Then all you can taste is the funky oil taste. There's a reason these oils come in pill form- because they aren't very tasty.

I think it would be a lot cheaper and a hell of a lot better tasting to stick with peanuts and salt natural peanut butter and take your omega-3's in pill form! Some things just shouldn't be mixed.

3.99 just for peanut butter? Thanks, but no thanks.

Exactly! But at least it will last a long time because after one bite, no one will continue to eat it. =)

I buy organic sugar-free peanut butter....it tastes better than any other p.butter I have had in my life and am convinced it must be better for me!!
    Flaxseed oil tastes awful....absolutely disgusting.

At the store where I shop, there is a machine that grinds up peanuts. no additives, just pure chunky peanut butter. it does the same for almonds, too. and, if you have a top food store, cashew butter is the bomb. it is expensive, but you don't eat much of it...has 1 gram of sugar per serving as opposed to three grams for the most common commercial brands. i can't eat peanut butter as it is a trigger for me, but i can eat the ground peanuts.

Man, I've never had anything but peanut butter. They have the peanut machine at the store I shop too, I will have to find one with almonds and cashews!

I never tried sugar free, but when I eat peanut butter, I'm just trying to stay away from the hydrogenated oils.

Hmm. I like it....your taste buds must be more sensitive than mine! I like that it doesn't have to be refrigerated and that I can keep it in my desk drawer at work. Try it on toast topped with apple slices or seedless green grapes (yes. keeping the grapes to stay on the toast takes a bit of mastery, but is worth it:-)

    Cheers

I'm glad for Smart Balance that someone likes it! I like their butter spread, but can't do the peanut butter. Natural peanut butter never has to go in the fridge. Some people just put it in the fridge so it doesn't separate once they've stirred it up. If you keep it out of the fridge, all you have to do is stir it a little when you use it. Grapes? That's interesting =)

i bought the peanut butter, it tastes gross, like you're eating a tub of canola oil. ewwww! also i read that canola oil is NOT good for you.

not to mention i'm severely suspect of peanuts they're supposed to be a major contributor to high cholesterol, weight gain and high inflamation which leads to heart disease. we've given up peanut butter for almond and cashew butter.

read up on peanuts to see how suspect they are. cheers!

I bought it from Safeway. I just went to their website and I'm surprised that they don't have a store locater or something that tells you where you can buy it.

I have an autoimmune disorder and react very easily to the majority of oils on the market... the exceptions being olive oil and flax oil. I have not been able to eat peanut butter for years... until now... I tried this today for the first time and am very happy with it. While it may not taste as good as regular pb, any pb is better than none! Plus, the bonus of getting extra omegas.

Isn't there peanut oil in it though? It has a fishy taste to me and some other people, but others really like it. We must have more sensitive taste buds? It's good at first, but the after taste is what kills me.
